Mahalaxmi Temple is located opposite to the Dada Vaidya road in Panjim. This was the first Hindu temple that Portuguese were allowed to build in 1818 after about 300 years in Goa. Popularly known as the Goddess of Wealth, Mahalaxmi is also regarded the presiding deity of the Panaji city. While the temple was in approval process the deity was kept at the house of Mhamai Kamat, located near The Idalcao Palace. Chaitra Purnima, Maruti Jatra and Navratri festivals are celebrated in the temple.
