The temple of Shantadurga Devi (the goddess of peace) is situated at a distance 1 km from Ponda and 33 km from Panjim. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga and the deity is called so because she came in this form to make peace between Shree Vishnu and Shree Shiva, who were at war with each other. The temple of Shree Shantadurga Devi is most revered by the Hindu community of Goud Saraswat Brahmins. Originally the deity was located at Keloshi, later it was shifted to the temple of Kavlem, which was built between 1713 to 1738.
