Garden Of Char Minar

Garden of Char Minar is one of the Mughal gardens located close to the famous Dal Lake, in Srinagar. Laid by Jahangir in the 17th century to express his love to his wife Nur Jehan, this garden is also called Shalimar Gardens. This garden is laid on a 12.5 hectares area, in a typical Persian 'char bagh' style with the central canal leading to the Dal Lake. Originally, the garden had 'Diwan-i-Aam' and 'Diwan-i-Khas' for Royals and other Harem members. All the sections have numerous fountains in large tanks, cascades, and mounted pavilions, lush lawns with colourful and fragrant flowers, tiled pathways and mighty chinars.Spring is the best time to visit when the plants bear flowers. However, tourists can enjoy in winter also when the frozen Dal Lake and the snow-clad Pir Panjal Ranges make a magnificent background.Preferred by travellers from all over the world, Garden of Char Minar can be easily accessed from any part of Srinagar. A 'Shikara' ride for INR 500/- (for 4 people) is preferred by many.
