Raghunath Temple

The Raghunath Temple is situated in the right side of Jammu and Kashmir, on the banks of river Tawi, in the Udhampur District. This temple was built by Raja Jagat Singh of Kullu on the advice of Shri Kishan Dass Ji Paihari in 1660. The temple consists of seven shrines, each having their own Sikhara. The complex of this temple forms the largest one of the Northern India. The main deity of this temple is Lord Ram, who was an avatar of Lord Vishnu. Other surrounding temples here are also associated with different episodes of the famous epic, Ramayana.The idol of Lord Rama present at this temple has been brought from Ayodhya, which was the birthplace of Rama. The structure of this temple comprises of a large number of galleries having lakhs of Saligrams. Certain paintings depicting Rama and Krishna Lila have also been displayed at this temple. Its inner sanctums contain statues of various Gods and Goddesses along with representatives of the entire Hindu Pantheon. It is also home to a Sanskrit library that contains rare and ancient manuscripts. The festival of Dusshera held at this temple every October to honour the deity is quite popular amongst the tourists as well as residents.
