Keran is associated with the folklore of King Karn, who once visited the region in search of water from a particular stream to get back his eyesight. One of his Wazir discovered the stream in the region of Shardi, now known as Sharda in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (POK). After regaining his eye sight, the first thing he saw was the beautiful valley, which is now known as Keran, also referred to as Dwara.
