Hazratbal Mosque

Hazratbal Mosque is known by several names like Asar-e-Sharif, Dargah Sharif and Madinat-us-Sani. This shrine is situated on the banks of Dal Lake and is opposite to Nishat Bagh. It is a white marble mosque which has large mountains in the backdrop. The mosque has been built with a fusion of Mughal and Kashmiri styles of architecture.The word lsquo;Hazratrsquo; means holy or majestic and the Kashmiri word lsquo;balrsquo; refers to a place or an enclosure. This shrine consists of a relic, which is believed to have a hair of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad.
