Karsha Travel Map

Karsha is a small village which is located near Zanskar. One of the largest monasteries of the region, Karsha Monastery, is situated in this village. Karsha Monastery, also known as Karsha Chamspaling, was founded by Phagspa Shesrab in the 10th century. However, this monastery later flourished under Dorje Shesrab, a teacher.There are several shrines in the complex of this monastery. Tthere are wall paintings made by Lama Dzadpa Dorje. More than 100 monks live in the complex of this monastery. On the 28th and 29th day of the sixth month according to the Tibetan calendar, Gustor Festival is celebrated in the monastery. The festive celebrations include the sacred dance performed by monks.An old nunnery at Dorje Dzong and an ancient temple of Chukshik-jal are the other attractions located in the village. The village also has a school, a small market, dispensary and a well-established communication network.
