Athirappilly Falls
Located 63 km from the city region of Thrissur is the Athirappilly Falls, which is also a popular picnic spot for the travellers because of the location and the 80 ft high waterfall. Laying in the Sholayar ranges this waterfall consists of two amusement parks in the nearby location by the name of DreamWorld and SilverStorm. The Vazhachal Falls are also located near the entrance of the Athirappilly Falls about 3 km away. The much talked about controversy related to the hydroelectric dam that was proposed by the state is also related to this waterfall. The dam has been highlighted in several Indian movies directed by noted Tamil film director, Maniratnam, including Raavan that was mostly shot here, whereas Dil Se, Kannathil Muthamittal, Iruvar and Guru featured the waterfall in songs.
