Sundernarayan Temple

The Sundernarayan Temple is believed to have been constructed in the 13th century during the reign of King Shilahar. It is also known as the Rupnarayan Temple and contains some beautiful sculptures. The presiding idol of the temple has four hands along with many accessories like Gada (Weapon), Padma (Lotus), Shank (Shell) and Chakra (Wheel). These accessories that adorn the hands of the idol are carved beautifully and reflect 24 different appearances of Lord Vishnu, when viewed clockwise. As per history, efforts of stealing the idol by the foreigners were thwarted by some of the locales who brought it back to the temple.
