Prince Of Wales Museum

Prince of Wales Museum, now the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, was found in the early 20th century to commemorate the visit of the then Prince of Wales. Built in 1905 to 1915, this museum served as a Children's Welfare Centre and a Military Hospital during the First World War. In 1922 however, it was transformed into Prince of Wales Museum and was inaugurated by Lady Lloyd.It was in 1990s that the museum was renamed after the founder of Maratha Empire, Shivaji. Spread across an area of 12,000 sq. m, this museum is ringed by palm trees and flower beds. Inside the museum are approximately 50,000 artefacts like sculptures, coins and more, displayed in separate sections including Art section, Archaeological section, Natural History section and new galleries.Tourists can reach the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya by boarding trains or buses or by hiring taxis or autos.
