Ganapati Temple

Ganapati Temple of Sangli is situated on the eastern bank of River Krishna and is one of the most popular temples of South Maharashtra. It was constructed by Thorle Chintamanrao Patwardhan in 1843, in the honour of the guardian deity of Sangli. The king also consecrated the idol of the deity in the temple, himself.The main feature of this temple is its architecture as it has been made out of black stones obtained from the hills of Jyotiba and its doors have been carved out of different coloured natural wood. The premises of this temple cover almost two acres and comprise a platform, a large hall and a 'Nagarkhana'. It is also said that the premises of this temple was used for holding several meetings by the freedom fighters during the freedom struggle.
