Balaji Mandir

Balaji Mandir is one of the oldest temples in Washim, which was built in 1779 by Bhavani Kalu. Bhavani Kalu was a dewan of Sahaji Bhosle and Janoji Bhosle. He built this temple when he was working as a Subhedar at the Karanja Thana. There is an idol of Venkateswara Balaji inside the temple, which was buried during the reign of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. In 1760, a horseman dug up this place and took out images of Ganapati, Parvati, Vishnu, Brahma, Vishnu, Mahadeva and others. The present temple was constructed in 1779 by Bhavani Kalu. It took 12 years to build the large paved quadrangle structure of the temple and the verandah. A bhandara is organised at this verandah on special occasions, for Brahmins.
