Jajmau is a suburb of Kanpur that is located on the eastern side of the city. Situated on the banks of the holy River Ganga, Jajmau is an industrial suburb that houses leather industries and tanneries. Excavations carried out by the Archaeological Survey of India suggest that the suburb dates backs to 1300 - 1200 BC.An old Jiinatun ki Masjid on the top of the hill can be seen at the suburb. Descending from the hillsa big compound called Jalil Saheb ka Haata can be seen, where one of the oldest families of Jajmau lived.Going even further down the famous shrine of Hazrat Makhdoom Shah Ala can be seen. The tomb of the famous Sufi saint was built by Feroze Shah Tughlaq in 1358. A mosque built by Kulich Khan in 1679 also stands at this place. Every Thursday devotes of every religion visit the Dargah Sharif to seek blessings.
