Husainabad Clock Tower

The Husainabad Clock Tower is located adjacent to the Rumi Darwaza. Constructed by Nawab Nasir-ud-Din Haider in the year 1880, it has the biggest fitted clock that cost the government around INR1.75 lakhs at that time. At 67 metres, it is the tallest Clock Tower in India. Designed by Roskell Payne, the clock tower is located on the banks of the Gomti River.To mark the arrival of Sir George Couper, the first Lieutenant Governor of United Province of Awadh, Nawab Nasir-ud-Din Haider erected the tower at a cost of INR1.75 lakhs.Having an European style artwork, the tower has been made of pure gunmetal. Reflecting Victorian-Gothic style structural designs, the clock tower has a pendulum that has a length of 14 feet. Shaped like a 12-petalled flower, the dial of this clock has bells around it.
