Satkhanda

Satkhanda is located just opposite the Hussainabad Imambara. Meaning 'seven storeys', the 67-metre tall red-brick watchtower shows a blend of French and Italian style structural designs.Constructed during the time of Nawab Muhammad Ali Shah, it is famed as the tallest tower in India. The tower is believed to have been built as a mark of respect to Sir George Couper, a progressive Governor of Uttar Pradesh.Owing to the untimely demise of Nawab Muhammad Ali Shah in 1840, the tower's construction was halted. Hence, it has only four storeys, out of the seven storeys planned. This tower like palace was built with the aim of viewing all the buildings in the town on those days.
