Indira Gandhi Memorial Botanical Garden

In 1986, Indira Gandhi Memorial Botanical Garden was established to restore the ecological balance of the region. The garden is located on the left side of Lucknow-Varanasi Highway. This garden is found to be on the northern bank of the Sai river. In the west of the garden, Rae-Bareli- Allahabad Railway Line runs similar to the Lucknow- Varanasi Highway. The park has a total proposed area of 57 hectares. Though only 10 hectares are currently being developed, it has been growing day by day. The purpose of the garden is not merely to make it a place for growing flowers, fruits or vegetables, but also an educational installation for scientists, research workers/ students and the general public, for awakening interest in plant life. The botanical garden includes a rock garden, a seasonal plant garden, an aquatic garden and a green house. The park also has a 'Medicinal Plant Trail', that includes 114 plants of 23 medicinal species, like Azadirachta indica or neem; Jatropha curcas or jamalghota; Datura metel or dhatura; Nerium Oleander or kaner etc. The place also has a 'Cultural Plant Trail', and 'Economic Plant Trail' and a 'Bulbous Garden'.
