Sri Devaki Krishna Temple
The temple of Sri Devaki Krishna is located at a distance of 17 km from Panaji, in Marcel Village of Ponda Taluka. The temple is one of its kind in India, as it is the only temple of Devaki - Krishna, a concourse of Lord Krishna and Devaki (Lord Krishna's Mother). Besides, the idol of Devaki - Krishna, the temple is home to other deities, namely Laxmi Ravalnath, Bhumika Devi, Mallinath, Chodaneshwar, Katyayani and Dhada Shankar. The original home of these deities was at the Chorao Island and these deities were moved to Mayem and finally Marcel Village, for fear of the Portuguese rulers' iconoclasm. The idol of Devaki - Krishna, established in the inner sanctum of the temple, has Devaki is in a standing position, with the child Krishna, between her legs. Malni Purnima festival is celebrated here during the months of January/February, which is also an important festival of this temple.
