Amarnath Ji

From the district headquarters of Anantnag, at 46 km is the Amarnath Jirsquo;s cave in Tehsil Pahalgam, which is visited by thousands of pilgrims. The best time to visit this place is during the annual procession of Amarnath that begins at Shrinagar and crosses this area. The long and lively procession of Amarnath is headed by devotees carrying the Mace of Lord Shiva. In this cave, Lord Shiva presides in form of an ice Shivalinga and is accompanied by ice blocks symbolising Goddess Parvati and their son Maha Ganesh. The ice blocks are known to change shape with the change in the position of the moon, they tend to grow larger and smaller as well. The state government of Kashmir makes arrangements for touristrsquo;s journey to the cave. This cave has been discovered by a group of Kashmiri Muslim shepherds, whose descendants still contribute in the offerings to the deity. Even the ruler of Kashmir, Sultan Zain-ul-Abdin visited this cave, which shows the cave is open to all kinds of visitors.
