Papanashini River is believed to have the power of completely cleansing the sins of the devotees. It is believed that when Lord Brahma was carving the statue of Lord Vishnu, Garuda, a large bird-like creature reached the place with a nectar pot known as Amrit Kumbha. A drop of nectar fell from the pot into the stream and thus, the river received the power of purifying the sins.
