In the local language, the word ‘Bugyal' stands for 'high altitude meadow'. The road leading to Dayara Bugyal starts from a place in Uttarkashi-Gangotri named Bhatwari, 32 km from Uttarkashi. Vehicles can only go till Barsu from where the trek starts to reach Dayara.Situated 10000 feet above sea-level, Dayara Bugyal is very popular for its natural surroundings. Ski facilities are available on slopes during winter, covering a total area of 28 sq km. The Himalayas can be seen from here. There is also a tiny lake in the area that offers camping facilities by its side. Trekkers can easily trek down to Dodi-Tal from here which is 30 km away.
